Health and Product Questions
What is the TriCare: Circle of Health?
The TriCare: Circle of Health represents the continuous nature of health. It was created to help reduce the confusion of selecting the right orthopedic cervical pillow for your needs. Each product is designated with the stages of health that the product provides. The three stages of health are:
- Accomodate, which helps provide comfort by conforming to and stabilizing the existing condition or disorder. This would help a person suffering from an injury feel comfortable. Typically displacement pillows work well at this stage.
- Correct, which helps eliminate symptoms by treating the cause of the disorder and restoring good health. These pillows are more supportive and help in resolving the cause of pain and reestablishing proper alignment. Corrective pillows can help alleviate headaches, neck muscle and joint strains, arthritis, whiplash discomfort, and help restore proper nerve function.
- Maintain, which helps ensure good health by sustaining the body in its proper, natural state. These pillows provide maximum support and comfort in order to ensure continued good health by helping sustain the body in its proper, natural alignment.
What size pillow should I order?
Most of our pillows are created to be adjustable or provide different support levels to fit various needs. For those pillows that require a size to be ordered, it is best to consult with your healthcare professional for a proper fit.
Is there anything I should do to adapt to sleeping on a cervical pillow?
If you are new to using a cervical pillow, your body may require some time to adapt, possibly a couple of weeks. When using the fiber pillows for back sleeping, start by using the smaller lobe. After several weeks, turn the pillow around and use the wider lobe, if needed. For side sleeping, use the raised sides. With foam, begin by using the pillow with the lobes down, sleeping on the flat side. This allows your body to gradually adjust to a cervical pillow. After several weeks, turn the pillow lobes up and sleep on the lobe that provides the best support while still being comfortable.
How do I wash my fiber pillow?
You should never wash a Core fiber pillow in a machine. ALWAYS WASH BY HAND using the following steps:
1. Thoroughly soak the pillow in a sink or tub filled with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent.
2. Press or flush water through the pillow until clean.
3. Press out excess water.
4. Rinse in clear water to remove detergent and any remaining soil.
5. Press out excess water and allow to dry flat. DO NOT HANG OR FILLING WILL SETTLE.
6. Refluff when thoroughly dry by punching on the diagonals.
Can I order an extra cover for the Bed Wedge Pillow?
Yes, extra Bed Wedge covers can be purchased. We don't list them as a regular item on the website because they are not a zipper type cover and are a little more difficult to put on. They are available to be purchased if you are interested in an extra cover though. To order a Bed Wedge cover, please email us at order@PillowRelief.com or call 800-584-5414. The costs for the three sizes of covers are listed below.
7" Bed Wedge Cover - $14.16
10" Bed Wedge Cover - $14.20
12" Bed Wedge Cover - $14.30
What is Outlast® technology?
Outlast® technology was originaly developed for NASA to protect astronauts against temperature fluctuations in space. Outlast® material is a microencapsulated phase change material (mPCM) that can be blended into compounds suitable for applying to fibers, fabrics, and coated materials. Outlast® materials have the ability to interact with your body to help balance temperature by absorbing, storing, and releasing the heat that you produce and maintaining a comfort zone.
Cold Therapy - Cold should always be applied for the first 72 hours following any type of acute injury such as an ankle sprain, after surgery, or with any type of swelling. Cold works by constricting the blood vessels, restricting the flow of blood to the affected area. It also numbs the nerve endings helping to dull any pain associated with the injury. Alternate 20 minutes of cold therapy with a 20 minute break. Repeat this process 3 - 4 times daily.
Heat Therapy - Heat therapy should be used for chronic issues such as muscle discomfort and stiffness. Heat opens up the blood vessels allowing blood to flow freely to the affected area. This increases circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients, and removing waste from sore, tired, or injured muscles. Alternate 20 minutes of heat therapy with a 20 minute break. Repeat this process 3 - 4 times daily until stiffness and soreness subside. Do not use heat therapy on areas with poor circulation, decreased sensation, or areas with bruising or swelling.
Pressure Point Therapy - Pressure point therapy is a massage technique that involves applying pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain or soreness. Manual trigger point therapy consists of deep, sustained pressure to the trigger point using either low pressure for a long duration (about 90 seconds) or a high pressure for a short duration (about 30 seconds).
Always consult your health care provider regarding any treatment of injury.
What is the R.I.C.E. Treatment Method?
Use the R.I.C.E. treatment method to treat minor injuries where swelling
occurs. Recommended for the treatment of minor strains, sprains, joint
aches, and other soft tissue injuries. Use the R.I.C.E. treatment
method at intervals of four to six hours during the first 72 hours
following a minor injury. The method is as follows:
Rest: Rest the injured area for the first 24 - 72
hours following injury. Use the affected area only as much as can be
tolerated and avoid any activities that cause pain.
Ice: Alternate 20 minutes of cold therapy with a 20 minute break. Repeat this 3 - 4 times daily.
Compression: Apply mild pressure to the area with a
wrap or extremity brace to reduce swelling. Be careful not to wrap too
tightly and if you feel pain or tingling, loosen the wrap or brace right
away to prevent causing further injury.
Elevation: Keep the injured body part elevated, above
the level of your heart, as much as possible during the first 72 hours
after injury.
Always consult your health care provider regarding any treatment of injury.
